Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf.
Imam
Feisal Abdul Rauf,
author and speaker, has been Imam of Masjid al-Farah in New
York City since 1983. Through his sermons and writings, Imam
Abdul Rauf seeks to provide spiritual seekers with answers to
their eternal questions that often hinder them from developing
a personal relationship with the Divine.
He holds his Master's degree from Columbia University and
PhD
in Plasma Physics from Stevens
Institute. In 1997, he established ASMA (American Sufi Muslim
Association) in New York, creating the first American
organization committed
to bringing Muslims and non-Muslims together through programs
in interfaith, culture, arts, academia and current affairs.
Imam Feisal is the architect of the Cordoba Initiative, an
interreligious blueprint for improving relations between
America and the Muslim world. He speaks frequently at
international conferences. He's appeared in national and
international media such as CNN, CBS, NBS, ABC, PBS and BBC.
Adviser, Interfaith Center, New York. He is a member of
National Interreligious Initiative for Peace, Washington DC.
He
teaches Islam and Sufism at the Center for Religious Inquiry
at St.
Bartholomew’s
Church in New
York City, and at the New York Seminary.
Imam Feisal is the author of Islam: A Search for Meaning,
in which he defines Islam as the universal religion that goes
beyond the cultural settings of the Prophet Muhammad, and
Islam: A Sacred Law, What Every Muslim should know about the
Shari`ah. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of
the Islamic Center of New York, and of the Interfaith Center
of
New York and lectures at Synagogues, Churches and Mosques,
and on radio and television programs in the United States and
abroad.
